Pricing & Custom Orders
On this page we explain our pricing approach, as well as the services we offer to customise paint for your project and how we price these customisations. Please note that two working days notice is required for custom mixes.
Off-the-shelf Pricing
We price at a 50% discount to the Bunnings price for the same type and volume of Dulux paint for all paints in our online catalogue.
Different paints are priced very differently in retail stores, correlated with manufacturing and tinting costs.
For example, 4 litres of water-based enamel paint with a deep base will be more than twice the price per litre of 4 litres of white ceiling paint. Our prices follow the same pattern because we aim discount by at least 50% of the new price for the particular type of paint.
You also get a significant volume discount for buying larger tubs or tins from Circle Paints, just as you do in your local hardware store. We do not offer bulk pricing for the purchase of multiple tubs and tins (we're already very cheap!)
We have used Dulux pricing as our reference point because over 95% of the paint we have collected to date is Dulux product. Dulux currently dominate the Sydney trade paint market.
We have small quantities of Resene, Porters, Wattyl, White Knight, and Taubmans paint, in which case the brand is noted on the stock item listing. Paint from other brands is usually priced the same as Dulux for the sake of simplicity, but you'll occasionally spot a bargain!
Custom Quantities
Sometimes we have paint on the shelf that is the right colour for you, but the quantity is much too large. We are willing to tip off the amount of paint that you need, provided we are not left with a small amount that we have nowhere to put except into a waste bucket.
The minimum quantity that we tip off is 1L.
If we have an empty tin or tub available to use for the tub split, and you select that option, we will create custom quantities for your job for a fee of $8.50 charge. We will add $3 extra if your paint is supplied in a new tin or tub.
The process: Please note that we may not have time to do a split on the spot if the shop is busy, so we encourage you to make the request in advance.
Send us a message via the website saying what you're after - for example, mention the listing for 10L of interior low sheen paint in "Vintage Linen", and say you want to buy only 4L. We'll create the 4L listing for you on our store, and send you the link to the product so you can purchase it.
Once you purchase the item we will tip off your quantity and send you a notification when it's ready for collection.
Custom Colour Mixes
We need a least an hour of staff time to create a custom colour that you will be happy with, so we cannot do the custom mix on the spot.
The minimum volume for a custom mix is 4L. Custom mixing of white colours is no longer available. In some cases we will not have the required base colours for your mix, especially if you are after a very bright colour, so please send us a message to confirm that we can create your colour in the type of paint and volume you need.
We have two price points for custom mixes depending on how close you want the match to be.
Close match: $50 per tin or tub
If you need an exact match, please purchase new paint elsewhere. We have learned that we cannot recoup the cost of the time spent creating an exact match with our paint saved from landfill.
The process: Please contact us well ahead of when you need your paint (minimum of two working days) and note that we require prepayment for custom mixes. Send us a message saying which Dulux colour you want, or let us know that you will bring us in a sample pot, a sample card from another brand, or a paint chip for matching. We'll create an item on our store for you, and send you the link to the product so you can purchase it. Once you've paid for your order we will start mixing.
A note about quantity estimation for custom mixes
The key message is to make sure that you buy plenty of paint for your job up front.
This is because it's going to be hard to source more paint that is an exact match with a custom colour that you've bought from Circle Paints if you run out of paint.
Although paint shops use a spectrophotometer to detect the exact quantities of each tinter in the mix, we've heard numerous reports that the colour match they do is far from perfect.
Bathroom & Kitchen Paint
If you intend to use your paint for an area with high humidity, add "Anti-Mould" additive to your shopping cart, and ensure you've purchased the right number of units of additive to treat the paint you will use in the humid area. For example, for a 4L tin, purchase 4 units of anti-mould additive.
