The most common question we've had through the Circle Paints contact form has about availability of kitchen and bathroom paint. We've been given a small quantity of "Dulux Wash&Wear +PLUS Kitchen & Bathroom", but the colour or volume has never been a fit for the customer.
So we did some research on what makes a paint "kitchen and bathroom paint". The answer is simply that it has an anti-mould agent added.
Digging into the product details for the various bathroom/kitchen paint products on the market, the additive Octhilinone was usually the active ingredient. This additive has both anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
You really don't want to drink this stuff! It's toxic if ingested. But a very small quantity appears to prevent mould growth for at least five years. 5ml is enough to treat 1 litre of paint.
We've bought a couple of bottles of Protite Mould Defender, and set up a few stock items in our online store linked to 1 litre, 2 litre, 4 litre, and 10 litre tins of paint. Customers can add the Protite to their order before checkout and we'll add the Mould Defender to their paint before they collect it.
If anyone would like to suggest an alternative additive that is effective, does not affect the durability of the paint, and is less toxic, we'd be glad to hear about it.
